DAILY WEATHER FOR NIGERIA

CURRENT WEATHER SITUATION OVER THE COUNTRY (23.10.2016)

Moist Southwesterly winds blowing from the Atlantic Ocean are established and their position have continued their Southwards movement within the past 24hours; for today, they have moved South to Lat. 12.0oN (South of Kano) in the Western sector and to Lat. 11.8oN in the Eastern sector respectively, within Nigeria. The South Atlantic anticyclone (also known as St. Helena high pressure cell) located in the Southern Hemisphere has remained weakened and the extent of it's ridge of high pressure into West Africa is affected; reducing the moisture influx into the northern parts of Nigeria.

The satellite imagery of today at 1500GMT shows convective cells developing over Mambilla plateau and extends across the border into Cameroon republic; convective cells also formed over the Central states of Nasarawa/Abuja/Kwara and over places in the Southwest and the South-South states. Thunderstorms are expected to develop in places across the Central states including parts of Southern Abuja this afternoon/evening.

OUTLOOK (24.10.2016)

Hot and mostly clear conditions will affect most parts of the Northern states. Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions will prevail the Central states while isolated thunderstorms are expected to affect places especially in the high ground areas during the afternoon/evening period. The Southern parts will be mainly cloudy in the morning; however, thunderstorms are expected to affect places in the Southwest and the Coastal states during the afternoon/evening periods.
