WEATHER SITUATION - 14.09.2016

Moist Southwesterly winds blowing from the Atlantic Ocean are established and their position have remain largely unchanged compared to it’s location of yesterday within Niger and Chad republics; for today, they have remain at Lat. 18.7oN in the Western sector and at Lat. 16.0oN in the Eastern sector, all outside the country. The South Atlantic anticyclone (also known as St. Helena high pressure cell) located in the Southern Hemisphere remain active but continue to reduce in strength whilst the extent of it's ridge of high pressure into West Africa is diminished; though moisture influx into all parts of Nigeria are sustained but decreased in both Northern Niger and Chad republics.

The satellite imagery of today at 1500GMT shows convective cells developing in the Central states and in parts of Kwara and Niger states, over the Adamawa/Mambilla plateau as well as in parts of the Southeast and spreads across the border into Cameroon; convective cells also form over parts of the Southwest and along the Coastal states of the South-South.

OUTLOOK (15.09.2016)

Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions will affect most parts of the Northern states while isolated thundery showers are expected to affect areas in the Northwest and Northeast respectively in the afternoon/evening. Cloudy conditions will prevail in the Central states with chances of showers while scattered thunderstorms are expected to affect places especially in the high ground areas during the evening/night period. The Southern parts will be mainly cloudy with rain/rain showers in the mornings; however, thunder with showers/rains are expected to affect parts of the Southwest, Southeast and areas in the Coastal states during the afternoon/evening periods.
