Moist Southwesterly winds blowing from the Atlantic Ocean have remained active and their position have moved further Southwards in the past 24hours; for today, they have moved South of Lat. 08.5oN in the Western sector and Lat. 08.0oN to the Eastern sector respectively, within Nigeria. The Subtropical anticyclone (also known as Azores high pressure cell over the African continent) located in the Northern Hemisphere remained active. Dust haze with poor visibility affected some stations in Niger republic; stations in Nigeria also reported poor visibility in dust haze ranging from 1500 – 5000m.
The satellite imagery of today at 1500GMT shows pockets of convective cell developing over areas in the Coastal states. Dust haze was also observed on satellite imagery over Niger and Nigeria respectively.
Hazy weather will continue to affect the Northern and Central states with visibility ranging from 1000 – 5000m. The Southern parts will be partly cloudy to cloudy in misty morning; while isolated showers/or thunderstorms are expected to affect places in the Coastal states during the afternoon/evening periods.
