The Director General/CEO of NiMet Professor Mansur Bako Matazu was recently selected as a member of the Scientific and Academic Advisory Board of the AGRHYMET. The Regional center for West Africa and the Sahel (RCC-WAS). It is a specialised institution of the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS).
His selection was based on his scientific and professional contributions to the field of Meteorology. The good news was contained in Dr Mahalmoudou Hamadoun, Director General’s letter dated 23rd February 2023 inviting Professor Matazu to accept the invitation.
In a Congratulatory Letter by the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika signed on his behalf by the Director, Human Resource Management, Mrs N M Nwokocha hoped that this new appointment will spur Professor Matazu to make further contributions in the field of Climatic and Hydroclimatic discourse to the benefit of humanity and global knowledge expansion.
The Scientific and Academic Advisory Board was established in 2001 and has been meeting regularly to evaluate and provide advice on the training and operational research activities carried out by its staff. The board comprises renowned experts from West Africa, Europe and North America who have worked in various disciplines of interest to the Center. Members are appointed for a 4-year session.
