Members of the Senior Executive Course 45 (2023) from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies paid a courtesy call on NiMet on the 3rd of April 2023. The team were drawn from the Military, Paramilitary, and Government Offices including the Presidency. This visit is in partial fulfillment of their course requirement and because the Agency is considered a critical stakeholder and custodian of valuable information the participants will need for their research into this year’s theme ‘Industrialization, Climate Change and Energy Security in Nigeria with emphasis on Issues, Challenges, and Prospects.
Leading the team was Dr Emmanuel Sambo Mamman who is the Institute’s Librarian. He further stated that information gathered from NiMet will be included in their final report which will be presented to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Warmly welcoming the Senior Executives, DG/CEO NiMet described the Agency as an extension of a University because our core mandate is to collect, collate and produced products and services for all the country’s socio-economic areas. Further speaking, he stated that NiMet is a repository of Information with over 100 years of documented information. To buttress the agency’s important and major role in Nigeria, the Central Bank of Nigeria recently commended NiMet for saving them over N120 billion because they adhered to our Weather Advisory.
DG/CEO made a presentation about NiMet showcasing its role, multi-sectoral products and service and the importance it plays in the socio economic development of the Nation. This was also followed by another by Director, Research and Training, Prof Effiong Oku titled Ending Energy Insecurity and Poverty and Avoiding Climate Damaging Pathway of Developed Nations. DG/CEO was presented with an award in recognition of NiMet’s contribution to weather and climate services in Nigeria. NiMet Literature were presented to all participants as resource materials that will further aid their research.
