Agrometeorological Bulletin No.8, Dekad 2, March (11 –20) 2019

Most parts of the southern region of the country experienced light to moderate rainfall leaving the northern part of the country in dry condition except places like Bida and Zaria which had less than 2mm rainfall amount. The entire country was below normal to normal soil moisture condition except Ibadan which is above normal. The mean maximum temperature ranged from 30.30C (over Eket) to 41.40C (over Yola). Most parts of the country experienced warmer to normal temperature with exception of areas in and around Eket, Kaduna, Umuahia, and Usi that had colder than normal temperature anomalies. The Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD) is expected to oscillate between Latitude 90N to 120N. Farmers are expected to intensify dry farming activities (irrigation) in the northern states. Farmers into animal productions should be mindful of the increase in temperature and provide clean waters which will help to reduce heat stress among others.
