NiMet Strengthens Collaboration with Yobe Govt Ahead of Commercial Flight Operations at MBICA

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) hosted a delegation from the Yobe State Government on Wednesday, 10th December as part of ongoing preparations for the take-off of commercial flights at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport (MBICA), Damaturu. The delegation, led by the Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Hon. Muhammad Muhammad Bara, met with the Director-General/CEO of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, for final technical consultations. The discussions focused on completing all meteorological processes required for certifying the airport for full aviation operations. NiMet reaffirmed its satisfaction with the findings of its inspection teams, noting that the installed equipment at MBICA aligns with ICAO standards for safe aerodrome operations. The Agency, however, recommended the installation of an additional mini-weather station near the Control Tower to further strengthen real-time data acquisition and aviation forecasting. NiMet commended the commitment of the Yobe State Government, led by His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, for its readiness to provide the additional facilities. The engagement represents a major step in ensuring MBICA meets all meteorological and safety requirements ahead of the commencement of commercial flights.
