2024 State of the Climate in Nigeria
Topic: Climate Info
Document Type: Magazine
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), as part of its statutory responsibilities, has been documenting the state of the climate in Nigeria for more than a decade. This is critical for tracking and providing local evidence of changing climates in Nigeria and their impacts on the socioeconomic sectors of the Nigerian economy, which are increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, which poses a significant threat to their sustainability. Rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and increased frequency of extreme weather events can disrupt operations, compromise safety, and impact the overall economy, such as national food security and aviation safety, among others.
