The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is currently attending the 23rd National Agricultural Show in Keffi, Nasarawa State. It is holding from the 20th to the 24th of November 2023. At the opening ceremony, the DG/CEO Professor Mansur Bako Matazu reiterated its commitment to continuously provide accurate and timely weather services for the Agricultural Sector which will ensure food security in line with the Federal Government Mandate. Further speaking at the opening ceremony on the 21st of November 2023, the DG/CEO NiMet who was represented by General Manager, Investment, Mr Abdullatif Yusuf emphasised the profound impact of weather and climate on agricultural activities, and tailor-made products and services for all stake holders in the agricultural sector. Some of these products include Season Climate Prediction, Agricultural Bulletins, Crop Calendar, Agromet Dekadel Bulletins, etc.
The aim of these products is to mitigate risks, reduce losses, maximise yields and ensure effective agricultural planning and decision making. Professor Matazu stressed these sustainable agricultural practices require a collection effort from all stakeholders in the agriculture value chain. He urged participants to embrace smart agriculture by using the available NiMet products and services. He expressed gratitude to the organisers of the National Agricultural Show for their continuous dedication and hard work toward achieving food security in Nigeria while expressing NiMet’s commitment to fostering a resilient and productive agricultural landscape.
