The Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite system offers a web-based data portal for accessing its imagery and sounding data. This portal allows users to view and download the data in various formats, enabling them to use it for weather forecasting, nowcasting, and other applications.
Following the unveiling of PUMA 2025-MTG on Monday, May 5th, 2025, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency successfully completed the upgrade of this revolutionary satellite receiving station on Friday, May 9th, 2025, with the successful installation of the Preparation for Use of Meteosat in Africa (PUMA 2025) and Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA) Satellite Receiving System.
At the signing ceremony, the Director General/CEO, Professor Charles Anosike, expressed his delight and appreciated EUMETSAT, the AUC, the European Union, and Tecnavia's Telecom Engineer Pierre Harris Koumda for implementing this latest technological breakthrough in Nigeria. Anosike noted that MTG (PUMA 2025) offers a transformational shift from the earlier MSG 2015 station that requires separate deployment for multiple locations. The newly installed MTG system at the NiMet headquarters will provide access to NiMet stations, including airport forecast offices nationwide, through its internet-ready feature, hence saving costs. MTG marks the start of a new era with regard to severe weather forecasting.
