Biography

Prof. Odjugo, Peter Akpodiogaga-a Ovuyovwiroye is from Okpara Inland, Ethiope East Local Government area of Delta State, Nigeria. He had Bachelor of Science Education in Geography (B.Sc. Ed) From Bendel State University (Now Ambrose Alli University), Ekpoma in 1989; M.Sc (1992) and Ph.D (2003) Geography (Climatology) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a Climatologist. Prof. Odjugo was employed as a Secondary School Teacher of Geography by Adamawa State Post Primary School Management Board (1990) and Delta State Post Primary School Management Board, (1993). In the same 1993, he moved to the College of Education, Agbor, Delta State, as Lecturer III. In 1998, he was employed as a Lecturer 1 in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, University of Benin, Benin City where he rose to the position of a Professor of Geography (Climatology) in 2010. Prof. Odjugo, P. A. O. is also an Adjunct Research Professor with the Centre for Population and Environmental Development (CPED), Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria since 2009 where he has been carrying our researches for National and International Organizations as the Lead Investigator in the areas of Climate Change and Environmental Issues. Prof. Odjugo joined the services of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency as the Director of Research and Training (August, 2017- January, 2022) and (December, 2023 to Date). His research interest is in the areas of Climate Change, Atmospheric and Environmental Quality Assessment, Hydro- and Agro-Meteorology and Tourism. Prof. Odjugo has over 78 publications in Book Chapters, Monographs, Local and International Journals and has supervised so many undergraduates and post graduate students. Prof. Odjugo was the President of Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG, 2021-2023); current 1st Vice President, Nigerian Meteorological Society (NMetS), Vice Chair of Social Service Committee of the International Association of Meteorological Education and Sciences (IAMES) and Former National Council Member, Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) He has attended several Local, National and International conferences, workshops and seminars. With the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Prof Odjugo is: 1.The WMO Education and Training National Focal Point for Nigeria. 2.Member, WMO Executive Council (EC) Capacity Development Panel (CDP), representing all the global WMO Regional Training Centres. 3.Expert Team Member of WMO Human Resources Development, Education and Training (CDP-ET-HRDET). 4.Expert Team Member of Capacity Development through WMO Technical Departments (CDP-ET-TDs). Prof. Odjugo is married with children.
