Biography

Engineer Hamid Olayinka AbdulKareem was born on the 8th of October 1965 in Lagos, Nigeria. He had primary Education at Asa LEA Primary School, Ogbondoroko, Kwara State. For Secondary School, he attended the Government Secondary School, Ilorin where he graduated with a division one. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree (1988) and a Master of Business Administration (2003) from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. In 2004, Engr. Abdulkareem obtained an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Ibadan. He is currently pursuing a PhD. in Civil Engineering at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria. Engr Abdulkareem has over 35 years of various working experience at both the private and public sectors. Starting in the private sector as a Site Engineer with Habibu Engineering Company before he proceeded to Nigerian Dynamics Engineering Company where he was involved in the construction of Igbatako- Akinfosile, Olowo-Irele, Isua Township roads. He was also involved in the construction of primary and secondary water pipelines around the Akoko townships of Okeagbe, Supare, Ikare, Arigidi, and Oka-Akoko amongst other projects. Engr. Abdulkareem gained more private sector experience when he worked for Owah-Unik Consultants, Effurun, Warri where he was actively involved in the design of the Regional Office of Agip Oil in Warri. Other private sector experiences include the design and construction of the Staff Quarters for the University of Ilorin and the 88km Kosubosu -Kiama Road in the northern part of Kwara State. In the public sector, he worked for the Kwara State Local Government Commission where he was involved in the basic policy formulation and its successful implementation across the Local Government Administration in Kwara State and part of present-day Kogi State. In February 2005, he Joined the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as Chief Engineer (Civil) to later become General Manager in the Civil Engineering, Procurement and Estate Services units of the Agency. Over his working career at NiMet, Engr Abdulkareem has been involved in the installation of meteorological Equipment, procurement process, construction, upgrade, remodelling and rehabilitation of its facilities nationwide. Engineer Abdulkareem is an active member of the following professional bodies: Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Fellow, Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) Registered Member, The Council for the Regulation of Engineers in Nigeria (COREN) Fellow, Nigerian Institution of Procurement Engineers (NIProcE) Chartered Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) In December 2023, He was appointed, Director, Engineering and Technical Services of the Agency. Engr. Abdulkareem is happily married and blessed with children. In his spare time he loves reading, travelling and meeting people.
