MRS. BIMBO OLAWUMI OLADEJI
Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji is a distinguished public servant, former legislator, and seasoned administrator whose career reflects an enduring commitment to education, social inclusion, gender equity, and public advocacy. Her progression from academia to legislative service and executive leadership within Nigeria’s aviation sector underscores a trajectory defined by competence, integrity, and impactful service.
Born and raised in Ogbomoso, Mrs. Oladeji began her academic journey at Ori-Oke Baptist Primary School before proceeding to Igbon Gambari Community High School, where she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate. Demonstrating early academic resolve, she earned a National Certificate in Education (NCE) from Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, in 1993. She subsequently obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Ado-Ekiti in 2004 and later a Master’s degree in Library, Archival and Information Studies (MLIS) from the University of Ibadan in 2009.
Her professional career commenced at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), where she served as a librarian from 1994 to 2014. During this period, she developed strong institutional management skills, intellectual discipline, and a deep appreciation for knowledge systems and public service delivery.
Mrs. Oladeji’s transition into public administration saw her appointed as Full-Time Commissioner I at the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) from 2006 to 2011. In this role, she contributed meaningfully to policy formulation and implementation within the state’s basic education framework.
In 2015, she was elected to the Oyo State House of Assembly, where she served two consecutive terms until 2023. As a legislator, she championed progressive reforms in disability rights, child protection, gender-based violence prevention, and property rights. Among her landmark contributions was the successful extension of maternity leave for nursing mothers in Oyo State from three to six months, a policy advancement widely commended for promoting maternal and child welfare.
She also served as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women’s Affairs and Social Inclusion, where she advanced policies supporting vulnerable and marginalised groups. Her legislative influence extended to committees on Education and Water Resources, reflecting her broad governance interests and dedication to community development.
In 2023, Mrs. Oladeji was appointed Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). During her tenure, she provided steady leadership in strengthening the Bureau’s public engagement framework, enhancing stakeholder communication, and reinforcing the family assistance mechanism in line with global safety investigation standards. Her time at NSIB was marked by professionalism, strategic outreach, and a compassionate approach to managing sensitive communications.
Following her impactful service at NSIB, Mrs. Oladeji has been redeployed to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection. In her new role, she is expected to leverage her extensive legislative, administrative, and communication experience and network to deepen stakeholder engagement, strengthen consumer-focused communication strategies, and further elevate NiMet’s public interface.
A revered member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), Nigerian Library Association (NLA), American Library Association (ALA), and the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS), Mrs. Oladeji has received numerous recognitions, including the Outstanding Child-Friendly Lawmaker Award and commendations for her philanthropic contributions to community development.
